On the round
Largs is the heart of it. The float starts at Nether Whittlieburn Farm in Brisbane Glen, just east of Largs, and works through the town first thing — South Largs, Middle Largs, Largs North — then Fairlie. Three mornings a week the Cumbrae ferry takes a float across to Millport. The same three mornings, a separate float covers the Skelmorlie / Wemyss Bay / Inverkip stretch up the coast. West Kilbride runs Mondays and Thursdays.
Business customers — cafés, the CalMac office, restaurants like Nardini's at the Moorings, nursing homes — are integrated into the same routes; deliveries are early enough to be there before the kitchen opens.
Beast-from-the-East exception
In February 2017, snow drifts blocked roads across the round. Willie and the team set 2.30am alarms and walked deliveries on foot to the worst-hit streets. It is not normal for that to happen, but if it does, it's been handled before.
During lockdown
In 2020 the round expanded to roughly 1,100 homes and businesses a week — milk, newspapers and groceries — for customers shielding or unable to shop. We added an online ordering option, took 30 phone calls an hour at one peak, and kept going. Most of those customers stayed.
